Why does his hat have to be cocked to the side, like he’s a gang banger? See, this is why I am leery about the “branding” efforts that Nike is undertaking with these commercials. They have almost a sense of hidden messages geared towards dehumanizing the same African-Americans that they are trying to promote a product to.

The reason in part why I didn’t trip off that was that in every other commercial “Kobe” had pretty respectable clothes and dress, so it wasn’t like they were specifically “painting” him that way. I don’t think the Kobe muppet has worn “just a T-shirt” either in any of them. So I didn’t trip off that.
